The Decorah School District has handed out five-day supplies of breakfast and lunch packages to the families of well over 300 Decorah students.

The meal deliveries took place Friday afternoon at Decorah High School, Freeport Park, and the former North Winneshiek School. Members of the school district's Nutrition Services prepared the meals and organized the distribution on Friday.

The Decorah School District did not initially qualify for state aid for such a meals program, but a waiver application has been submitted to Des Moines and is expected to be in force for this coming Friday's meal pickup and others to follow.

But donations from Decorah Bank and Trust and the Decorah Rotary Club covered the costs of last Friday's meals to go.  Decorah Nutrition Services Director Chad Elliott predicts the school district will be able to continue the Grab and Go Program each Friday throughout the school closure.
