Decorah teachers, hourly staff will continue to be paid during the four-week break from classes

The Decorah School Board has approved a resolution written by the Iowa Association of School Board which gives school districts in the state guidance on how to handle the four-week break from school ordered by Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

First and foremost, the resolution agrees that teachers "will remain employed during the school closure."  It also says that bus drivers, cooks and other classified and/or non-exempt employees will be paid for up to four weeks during the closure.

Superintendent Mark Lane says at this point there will be no financial impact on the school district because "this is what we have budgeted."

The resolution gives the Decorah School Board the power to reevaluate the situation if the school closure goes beyond four weeks.
