The Decorah High School Prom has been cancelled

The Decorah School Board sees the writing on the wall--there won't be a prom this school year.

Board members voted 5-0 Thursday evening to cancel the event, agreeing with School Board President Ron Fadness, who said, "Prom in the traditional sense won't happen."

Board members discussed holding a different event at a later date, although Activities Director Adan Riley warned that "You are going to run into conflicts."  He said there are other activities scheduled every weekend in April and May.

Superintendent Mark Lane said he had received phone calls and e-mails from students and parents who have been worried prom might be cancelled.  But he noted, "Even if we are able to return, we'd want to protect everybody's health."
