Sewer and water rates could go up two percent starting in July

The Decorah City Council has approved first readings of two ordinances which would increase both sewer and water rates.

Under the legislation, water rates would go up two percent with the July 1st billing date.  Sewer rates likewise would increase by two percent.

Both measures need to be approved two more times before going into effect.

City officials say the sewer and water rates are part of a multi-year effort to improve the finances of the utility funds.
