Decorah School District cancels student belonging pick-up day

The Decorah Community School District is cancelling the student personal belongings and technology device pick-up day scheduled for Wednesday.

School Superintendent Mark Lane says, "While we have a strong desire to serve our students and families, we do not want to run the risk of creating environments that put our employees, our students, or our community at risk."  Lane says plans for the pick-up day were scrapped after the latest statement from Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds.

The school district has been working on a case-by-case basis to make arrangements with families for pick-up of essential items such as medication or assistive devices that were left at school.  Says Lane, "If you have an essential item that might need to be retrieved from school this week, please contact the appropriate building principal via email or phone to make arrangements to pick those items up.  Please be aware that, at this time, we do not view district tech devices, or school work to be essential."

All Decorah Community School District buildings will remain closed Wednesday and for the foreseeable future.
