Winneshiek County Health, based upon the recommendations of the Iowa Department of Public Health, is giving advice on cleaning private homes.
--Regularly clean all frequently touched surfaces. This includes but is not limited to countertops, doorknobs, door handles, telephones, buttons in elevators, faucets and toilet flushers, and remote controls.
--Disposable wipes are useful.
--A disinfectant that indicates it kills influenza and human coronavirus is effective. There are many different brands of effective disinfectants. Most often the one you currently purchase is sufficient.
--Provide tissues and no-touch garbage cans.
--Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use a paper towel to dry your hands. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol can also be used. If using hand sanitizers, be sure to keep several in visible locations.
--As the weather warms up, you may wish to open windows to encourage fresh air exchange.
