Effective immediately, Winneshiek Medical Center is limiting visitors to its facilities.
There have been NO known COVID-19 exposures in the Decorah area, although influenza remains widespread. The hospital has imposed the restrictions on the advice of the Iowa Department of Public Health.
Winneshiek Medical Center will limit visitors until further notice. Visiting hours will be from 8:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. for "well visitors" only, with "well visitors" defined as people who have no fever; no cough; no sore throat; and no achiness. Visitors must be over the age of 18. There will be a limit of two visitors at a time in patient care areas.
A spouse or significant other is still allowed to visit in the OB department, as are a grandparent or sibling to a newborn baby.
All visitors must clean their hands before entering any patient room—WMC provides hand sanitizer wall dispensers throughout the facility.
These limitations will be enforced unless there are special circumstances such as end of life or critical needs. WMC staff will make the decision based on the needs of the patient.
People are still being reminded to call (563) 382-2911 before arriving to the WMC clinic, urgent care or emergency room with respiratory symptoms (fever or cough).
For all COVID-19 resources, monitor the Winneshiek County Public Health or Iowa Department of Public Health websites.
