Michael Osterholm is considered by some to be the country's leading expert on biosecurity and infectious diseases.  Osterholm is a 1975 Luther College graduate who has spent much of his career as the State Epidemiologist in Minnesota and as a University of Minnesota professor.

In 2005 he wrote, "This is a critical point in our history. Time is running out to prepare for the next pandemic. We must act now with decisiveness and purpose."  His 2017 book, "Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs," reiterated that point.

Osterholm was interviewed this week by CNN: https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/10/opinions/osterholm-coronavirus-interview-bergen/index.html
