New veterans memorial at Mary Christopher Park will be bigger than first proposed

The Decorah Park-Rec Board has agreed to allow local veterans groups to build a larger veterans memorial at Mary Christopher Park.

Plans originally called for a 40-foot wide circle to encompass the memorial, but veterans groups changed that request to a 50-foot circle. 

Park Board members were originally concerned that the additional width would interfere with plans for the rest of the park.  But staffers are now looking to extend the veterans memorial to the east, away from the playground area and shelter and restrooms also planned for the park renovation.
