Around 6:28 p.m. on Saturday evening, the Decorah eagles added a second egg to their nest. This is an extra special egg because "Mom" eagle has never laid an egg on Leap Year.
The parent eagles are now busy taking turns incubating the eggs, warding off intruders, such as squirrels and other birds of prey, and delicately rolling the eggs with their massive talons. Also captured on camera was the tug of war over a fish dinner. ("Mom" won, by the way.)
There is much anticipation about the potential of a third egg arriving in the next day or two. "Mom" has laid three eggs each year except her first year at the nest.
