By three different measurements, the weather in Decorah in February was much warmer than usual.
Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz says the average high temperature, average low temperature and daily average temperature in February were all at least three degrees warmer than the historical average over the last 127 years.
The average daily temperature in February was 23.3 degrees--3.2 degrees warmer than the average of 20.1 degrees. The average of high temperatures was 33.4 degrees, while the average of low temperatures was 13.2 degrees. Decorah reported highs of 46 degrees on February 2nd and 3rd. Records were set on February 1st and February 2nd--but for maximum low temperatures, with the low of 35 degrees on February 2nd setting a new record.
Decorah had only five days with snowfall in February, which meant the total of 0.69 inches of snow as 0.27 inches less than the average.
Since 1894, 73 Februaries have been wetter, two were the same and 50 were drier.
