first on decorahnews.com: Four staff members at Luther College's Student Academic Support Center have resigned

Luther College's Student Academic Support Center provides support to any Luther College student who seeks it.  The programs operated by the center include free tutoring, individualized support and services to disabled students.

Its ability to provide those services has been tested in January, when four members of the Center submitted their resignations.

decorahnews.com has learned that the resignations follow the filing of several complaints with the Luther ethics hotline, alleging the staff members were subjected to rude and disrespectful bullying behavior.

Luther College does not publicly comment about personnel matters.  However, an internal memo viewed by decorahnews.com says the college has made a pledge to have a full staff in place at the center at the start of the spring semester next Wednesday.  Of course, that does not immediately address the issues raised by the mass resignations.  The internal memo obtained by decorahnews.com says only that there will continue to be a review of student support services.

Late Wednesday, Luther College issued the following official statement: "Luther College is committed to creating and maintaining an atmosphere where all members of the community--students, faculty, staff, and visitors--are treated with respect and dignity. The college will not tolerate any form of illegal discrimination or harassment and works to create a positive, inclusive work environment.  All complaints are taken seriously. However, Luther College treats personnel matters as confidential and will not share any further information at this time."
