Decorah High School's premiere jazz ensemble, "The 7 O'Clock Jazz Band," has received straight Division 1's from all of the judges at the Iowa High School Music Association's State Jazz Festival. The band had scores of 46, 49, and 49 out of a possible 50.
"They played really well and earned every bit of the positive comments and high scores," remarked ensemble director Matt Cody.
The 7 O'Clock Jazz Band is comprised of saxophone players Gabriel Anderson, Daniel Skrade, Brenna Parker, Anna Tallier, and Katie Storlie; trombone players Eli Vorvick, Kaya Hougen, Max Wilson, and Casey Brickley; trumpet players Landon Miller, Blake Henriquez, Tyler Irwin, Abby Hanson, and Dylan Muhlbauer; and the rhythm section: AJ Morrow on drums, Pete Wilson on piano, Britta Swanson on guitar, and Sally Laybourn on bass.
The public can experience the middle and high school jazz bands at the annual Jazz Coffee House performance on Friday, March 6th located in the DHS cafeteria.
