Fire damages home on South Bear Road

Decorah firefighters responded to a structure fire at 2248A South Bear Road at 12:45 Friday afternoon.

Fire and heavy smoke were venting from a third floor window on the south end of the building.  Firefighters extinguished the fire.  Fire damage was contained to several rooms at the south end of the third floor.  Lower floors on the south end of the building sustained water damage, with smoke damage throughout much of the building.

Decorah firefighters were on the scene for about 2 and a half hours and were assisted by Calmar Fire Department, Ridgeway Fire Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff, Decorah Police Department, Winneshiek County Emergency Management, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance, MiEnergy and Winneshiek County Dispatch.
