The case against Decorah resident Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander, a former Cresco teacher accused of having sex with one of her students, is now closed.
Ranweiler-Oblander agreed to a plea agreement in Howard County District Court this week after the charge was reduced to an aggravated misdemeanor.
As a result, District Court Judge Margaret Lingreen gave Ranweiler-Oblander a suspended two-year prison sentence, imposing instead a 10-year probation. Ranweiler-Oblander will also pay over $900 in fines and additional court costs and will be placed on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.
The charges against Ranweiler-Oblander were filed in May of 2018. She was put on administrative leave from her teaching job; was banned from the school grounds; and was forbidden to have contact with the student.
