An agreement on the city flag policy?

Decorah City Administrator Chad Bird says a final city flag policy might be presented to the Decorah City Council next month for approval. Members of the city's Betterment Committee have been reviewing the administrative policy.
Bird says he anticipates the city council approving a policy which will include dates that only the American flag will be displayed, with other dates included on which Luther College flags, Decorah High School flags, PRIDE flags and Nordic Fest/Scandinavian flags are flown.
The policy would not allow "political" flags to be flown. "Political" would be defined as those promoting a candidate or an office holder. City Attorney John Anderson has reviewed the wording of similar policies used by other towns and believes the proposed wording for Decorah is workable.
Bird says the PRIDE flag is being considered a community flag and not a political flag. He says the flag is seen by city council members as a statement about the kind of community Decorah wants to be.
