The City of Decorah's Streets Committee Monday night held one final review of the plans for reconstructing Locust Road. The specifications will now be sent to the Iowa Department of Transportation by next Monday, January 20th.
Monday night's meeting discussed some of the finer details of the project. Four radar speed signs will be installed on Locust Road--two for southbound traffic and two for northbound traffic. A five foot wide sidewalk will be built along the road from College Drive to Shady Lane Drive. North of Shady Lane, electrical lines will be buried underground and rumble strips will be installed on the sides of the road.
The speed limit on Locust Road will be 35mph for the majority of the street, and 25mph near College Drive. 15 water culverts will be installed underneath the road or adjoining driveways. 300 feet of steel guardrail will be installed along the first curve north of College Drive.
Bids on the project will be opened by the Iowa DOT in Ames on April 21st. A public hearing May 4th by the Decorah City Council will be followed by a vote by city council members on whether to award the project to the low bidder.
