Two separate accidents result in two people injured

Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies responded to two separate traffic accidents over the weekend.
Friday evening around 5:30, deputies were called to Highway 52 near Townline Road in Decorah Township. 40-year-old Nicholas Wemark of Fort Atkinson did not see a tractor trailer ahead of him and ran into the back of the trailer, which was being pulled by 20-year-old Nicholas Kuehner of Decorah.
Kuehner was ticketed for failure to display a reflective device. Wemark was transported by ambulance to Winneshiek Medical Center. The accident did $16,000 in damages.
Around 3:00 Saturday morning, deputies were called to County Road A14 in Hesper Township. 24-year-old Austin Selness failed to negotiate a curve, went into the ditch, struck a fence and embankment, overturned and came to rest on the wheels of the car. Selness had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to Winneshiek Medical Center. This accident remains under investigation, with charges pending. Winneshiek Ambulance, Mabel Ambulance, Decorah Fire and Mabel Fire assisted.
