Public hearing has been set on Alliant Energy park property lease

A public hearing has been scheduled for 5:45 p.m. January 21st on leasing a parcel of property in Vennehjem Park to Alliant Energy for use as the site of a battery electricity storage site.

The battery storage facility would allow Alliant Energy to store electricity at the site during days when Alliant customers with solar energy installations sell their electricity to the utility.  The electricity could then be stored for use on days when power demand was high or production was low.

Alliant Energy has agreed to a $7,500 non-refundable grant to Decorah Park-Rec, then other payments for a total of $20,000 to rent space in the city's Vennehjem Park for a battery power storage facility.  Park-Rec will use the money from Alliant and other money it has raised to install $32,500 worth of playground equipment at the park.
