Democrat Julian Castro has withdrawn from the race for the party's Presidential nomination.
As a result, Castro will NOT visit Decorah Sunday. His campaign has canceled a planned appearance at The Lingonberry at 218 West Water Street from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Castro is from San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in political science/communications in 1996 and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2000. In 2001 he was elected to the San Antonio City Council, becoming the youngest council member in the city's history. In 2005 he ran for mayor, but lost, then ran again in 2009 and won. He served three terms as mayor of San Antonio before President Obama named him U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He served in that role until the end of the Obama Administration.
