This Year's New Year's Eve Party at the Decorah Elks Club will not only mark the end of 2019, it will also mark the final time the Avey/Grouws Band holds an NYE party in Decorah.
Lead singer Jeni Grouws says she has performed on New Year's Eve at the Elks Club "for more years than I can remember." She recalls at least six performances with the band "Absolute Hoot" and says Tuesday night's performance with the Avey/Grouws Band will be their fourth NYE Party.
"It's the most fun party of the year," she says, noting that everyone who comes relaxes and has a good time. But it's also an event that requires a lot of time to organize and produce. With the band heading to Memphis in January to compete again at the International Blues Challenge, the time has come, Grouws says, to take a break.
This year's event will start at 7:30 p.m., with the Irish pub band "The Guilty Kilts" performing from 8:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and the Avey/Grouws Band performing from 10:15 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. There will be champagne served at midnight.
Tickets to the event are $12 in advance and $17 at the door. They can be purchased in advance until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Oneota Community Co-op, or on-line at
