Decorah Middle School 5th grade teacher Sarah Nowack has been named a recipient of a Daughters of the American Revolution's Helen Pouch Memorial Fund Classroom Grant.
The $500 grant has been used to purchase 74 books which are part of sets of eight different historical fiction novels.
"These books will be used in teaching the historical fiction genre," Nowack explained. "Having so many book options allows students to read books appropriate for their reading level while still being able to compare and contrast with other students' books. It also allows the whole class to discuss common themes among the novels."
