Decorah Police Department is now offering Internet Exchange Safe Zone

Posted: Tue, Dec 24, 2019 8:55 AM

The Decorah Police Department has set up a safe meeting spot for community members to complete online transactions.

Decorah residents can go to the police station behind City Hall at 400 Claiborne Drive to meet a buyer or seller. The designated Internet Exchange Safe Zone is located in the police station's parking lot. Transactions may also be completed in the department's lobby.

By using the police department as a meet up location between a buyer and seller, Decorah residents do not have to share their address with a stranger or meet a stranger at their home. While Decorah police cannot guarantee the quality or authenticity of items residents purchase online, the online transaction safe zone provides residents with a secure and public spot to complete a sale.

The Decorah Police Department says, "We know that the internet has become a popular place for people to connect and exchange items, and we know that residents still value personal privacy and safety. The Internet Exchange Safe Zone is under video surveillance at all times and the Decorah Police Department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week to give residents peace of mind and a safe place to complete their online transactions."
