The response has been overwhelming to various fundraisers for the Jared Rude family.  Rude is a 2007 Decorah High School graduate who had an accident at his home on December 7th which resulted in a traumatic head injury.  He is now being treated at a brain injury recovery center in Chicago.

On Friday night, almost 20 businesses pledged to donate $5 for every point the Decorah boys and girls basketball team or the New Hampton boys and girls basketball teams scored.

The Decorah boys basketball team scored 80 points and the girls basketball team scored 39 points.  That means 12 Decorah businesses will each donate $595--Finholt Construction, Mabe's Pizza, Decorah Electric, Johanningmeier Stone, T-Bock's, V & V Insurance, Steve's Car Care, Dental Associates, Decorah Bank & Trust, Bodensteiner Implement, Rotocast Plastics and Grizzly Coolers.

The New Hampton boys basketball team scored 34 points, while the girls team scored 49 points, so $415 donations will be made by Community Insurance, Chickasaw Ambulance Service, C & E Lane, Inc, Holthaus Chiropractic, Tri-Mark Corporation, Bodensteiner Implement and Mike and Amy Lockie.

The business donations and donations raised through a 3-point shooting contest and free will donations means the Friday event raised over $11,000.

Meanwhile, Culver's of Decorah says its fundraiser for Jared Rude on Sunday, December 15th, raised $1,000.  That means over $12,000 in donations has been raised in the last two weeks through these two events alone.

Private donations are still being accepted through the Jared Rude Recovery Fund at Decorah Bank & Trust.  All money raised will help the family with medical expenses.
