City of Decorah crews have begun working to improve Dry Run from East Water Street to the Upper Iowa River.
City workers recently concentrated on the portion of Dry Run near East Water Street, cutting down trees and brush and removing weeds.
City Street Department Director Jeremy Bril says the goal is to make Dry Run more of an asset to the community. He says crews have planted seeds for a winter cover crop for the area and will also in the future plant native prairie plants. The goal is not just to have the area be low maintenance, but to stabilize the banks of the stream.
The project is likely to be a multi-year project, with the city first concentrating on improving property that it owns, such as the property along South Avenue.
