Two-vehicle accident causes $5,000 of damage

The Decorah Police Department responded to a two-vehicle accident on Monday afternoon.

16-year-old Dalton Hemesath of Ridgeway was stopped at the stop sign on Riverview Street and westbound traffic was backed up on Water Street. Hemesath reported he looked both ways and thought it was clear to cross Water Street. He pulled out from the stop sign and was struck by 64-year-old Dennis Wohlfeil of Decorah who was traveling eastbound on Water Street.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles sustained major damage but were drivable.
