Paul Scott comment: "This wins the prize for Worst Idea of 2019"

(The following is a comment by decorahnews.com's Paul Scott):
"When I came to Decorah in 1985, I was an early supporter of the proposal to have a beer tent at Nordic Fest as a way to raise funds. It wasn't a popular opinion at that time. But once a beer tent was started, the town has learned to live with it--except for the complaints about loud music.
But now comes a proposal to move the beer tent onto Water Street--and not just anywhere on Water Street, but in front of the Vesterheim Museum. This is easily the worst idea I've heard in Decorah this year--and that's saying something in a year which has included rooster lawsuits, a constantly-changing city flag policy and a political bus tour called the "No Malarkey Tour."
I can easily think of three other locations which would be better--the 100 block of Winnebago Street, the 100 block of Washington Street and the 100 block of East Water Street (although that's my least favorite location).
Or--if the Nordic Fest Board is concerned about the high costs of setting up a sound stage at the beer garden, it could just not use a sound stage.
Of course, these are just my opinions and, if I've learned anything in 19 years of decorahnews.com, it's that my opinion doesn't matter--yours does. But here's an opportunity for you to share your opinion with the Nordic Fest Board members. The Nordic Fest website provides the names of board members, with e-mail links to many of them. Here's your chance to weigh in at
