33-year-old Jacob Pambin of Decorah is scheduled to appear in court in Ames at 1:00 Monday afternoon to be arraigned on two charges of vehicular homicide.
The charges have been filed in connection with an August 4th traffic accident which took the life of Pambin's passenger, Trenton Litke. The trial information in the case says Pambin unintentionally caused the death of Litke by operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
The Iowa State Patrol, which responded to the August 4th accident in Story County near Zearing, say their investigation found Pambin had a blood alcohol level of 0.159 at the time of the crash--nearly twice the legal limit in Iowa. Investigators say Pambin deliberately began fishtailing in his vehicle, but because of his intoxication he could not keep his vehicle under control and it crashed into a metal culvert and overturned, killing Litke at the scene.
Pambin is being held in Story County Jail on a $25,000 bond. A public defender has been appointed in the case and will represent Pambin Monday afternoon.
