Sunday is the deadline for enrolling in the individual marketplace health plan

This year's news about the Affordable Care Act—also known as "Obamacare"—is more positive than in some past years with an increase in tax credits available.  In Decorah, Group Benefit Partners' Brian Huinker says nine out of ten people applying for ACA coverage will have an option to pay zero dollars for a 2020 health insurance plan.

To be eligible, applicants must be under the age of 65 and not covered through a group health insurance plan.  People who will qualify for zero health insurance premiums include members of a family of two with under $67,500 in adjusted gross income; members of a family of three with under $85,000 in gross income; members of a family of four with under $103,000 in gross income; and members of a family of five with under $120,000 in gross income.

The $0 premium amount is not just based on family size and gross income, but also on how many people in the household are applying.  Payments--if necessary--are determined on a sliding scale, depending on gross income.

The enrollment deadline is Sunday, December 15th.  Huinker says a local agent costs the same as calling the 800 telephone number on your own—and they can help with service or claim issues.
