Winneshiek county Habitat for Humanity volunteers Gary Hildebrandt, Bob Krzyzanowski and Chris Wyse are shown working on the Calmar home's foundation
Applications are being accepted by Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity for a family interested in helping to build a three-bedroom home in Calmar. WCHfH volunteers have capped the basement and will continue the build in the spring of next year.
Families wishing to become a partner family must currently live in housing that is inadequate for their needs, have stable employment and be willing to invest labor or "sweat equity," alongside volunteers, in building their homes and future Habitat homes of others.
Winneshiek County Habitat for Humanity has been a local chapter of Habitat for Humanity International organization since 1993. The local chapter has built or renovated 31 houses in eight Winneshiek County communities. Of those 31 families, six have been single parent households. Altogether, WCHfH has provided permanent homes for over 50 children. It currently builds one three-bedroom, energy efficient house per year.
