Mary Christopher Park design was created by former Decorah City Forester Robin Sailor.
Members of the Decorah Parks and Recreation Board Thursday night gave their unanimous approval to several projects in Mary Christopher Park.
Representatives from local veterans groups met with the board and got a unanimous vote in support of plans to develop a veterans memorial at the park. A Memorandum of Understanding will be written up to cover the project.
The 40-foot wide memorial will be created on the western side of the park. Other planned improvements will include the creation of an inclusive play area, new black vinyl fencing, a new open-air shelter on the northeast edge of the park and the addition of a single stall universal restroom. All existing trees on the site would be preserved.
