The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to a report of an accident involving a semi pulling a cattle trailer Tuesday afternoon.
63-year-old Rickey Mormann of Earlville, Iowa, was pulling a trailer loaded with cattle out of a farm on 150th Avenue shortly after 4:00 p.m. when the back wheels got stuck in the ditch.
The semi was pulled out of the ditch and the driver exited the semi. However, the trailer remained stuck. A few minutes later the semi started to roll down 150th Avene, entered the east ditch and rolled onto its passenger side.
The cattle had to be cut out of the trailer. Five head of cattle died and four were injured. The total damage was estimated at $45,000.
