The Decorah Community Food Pantry is moving to the section of the Spectrum building that faces Railroad Street in Decorah.
The move will begin over the Thanksgiving break and will last through December 2nd. The Pantry will reopen on Tuesday, December 3rd, with new hours: The waiting room will open at noon Tuesdays, with the pantry itself being open from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Thursday evening hours will remain at from 6:00 until 7:30, with the waiting room open at 5:30.
The food pantry will also have a new phone number--(563) 202-0872. Parking will be available on the street across from the entrance.
"This is an exciting opportunity for us to better carry out our mission of serving food insecure people, "stated Board President Jud Barclay. "We are deeply grateful for the many ways that First Lutheran Church has generously supported us for the years after we became a separate non-profit."
December 3rd is not only the first open day of the new location, but it is also Giving Tuesday. After the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday was established nationally to give an opportunity to Americans to share their blessings with those in need. The Decorah Community Food Pantry has joined this effort. For every $20 donated, the Pantry can purchase about $200 worth of food which will feed two families for as many as 20 days. Because the Pantry can purchase from the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, donations are leveraged almost 10 times.
