Decorah City Council does not approve revisions in the city's vehicle use policy

The Decorah City Council has deadlocked on whether to approve changes to the city's policy about the use of city vehicles.
A proposed new policy would have limited the use of fire department equipment. The policy would have allowed the use of fire department vehicles at funerals, but not at weddings.
Under questioning, however, it was disclosed that the city's insurance carriers recommended "mo personal use" of fire department vehicles. City council member Ross Hadley stated he wanted more information on the policy, while city council member Emily Neal said she wanted to hear more input on policy from the Decorah Fire Department.
A vote to approve the new policy failed on a 3-3 margin, so the issue will come up again in two weeks.
