The Decorah High School Robotics Club is announcing that it will host a robotics competition on Saturday, November 23rd, in the high school gym. The public is encouraged to come support the DHS local robotics teams. The competition is free and open to the public.
The competition will feature robotics teams from across Northeast Iowa. Matches will run from a little after 10:00 a.m. until about 2:30 p.m. This will be the second competition of the year for both the junior/senior team of the Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Men and Women and the freshmen/sophomore team of the Norwegian Ninjas.
The Robotics Club participates in a program called FIRST Tech Challenge. At the beginning of the school year, teams comprised of 7th through 12th grade students from around the world are given an obstacle course scenario. Teams then design, build, and program an 18 x 18 x 18 inch robot that they can control in order to score as many points as possible within that scenario. This year's robotics competition is called "Skystone." The season is sponsored by "Star Wars: A Force for Change." Robots are required to build towers out of interlocking blocks and place a capstone on the highest tower. However, teams have to navigate their robots under low bridges and stack the blocks on movable foundations in order to score points.
