A jury of seven men and five women has returned a verdict of guilty to a lesser charge in the first degree murder trial of 19-year-old Dalton Adam of Prairie Du Chien.

The jury Monday morning reported that it had found Adam guilty of voluntary manslaughter--a conviction which carries a maximum possible sentence of ten years in prison.  Adam had been charged with first degree murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

The jury deliberated for four hours on Friday afternoon, then returned to state it had not been able to reach agreement.  The jury was sent home for the weekend, then it returned at 9:00 Monday morning and deliberated for another hour and a half before announcing it had reached a verdict.
