Some Winneshiek County farmers will receive a "Stay Safe, Take a Break bag" Wednesday

Weather permitting, members of the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce's Ag Committee will distribute 180 Stay Safe, Take a Break bags on Wednesday.

The bags in the past have included everything from pop and water to first-aid kits, from work gloves to homemade cookies.

Says Chamber Executive Director Kristina Wiltgen, "Our goal is to meet farmers while they're in action and remind them that they're seen, and to take good care of themselves during the harvest season. Bringing them provisions right in the fields seems like such a beautiful, homegrown way to do that."

The Stay Safe Take a Break project began in 2004 in an effort to help fight farmer fatigue and keep workers safe in Winneshiek County during the fall harvest season. The program was designed to be implemented over a four-year period with bags delivered each year in a different quadrant of Winneshiek County.
