MiEnergy Cooperative's "Operation Round Up" has awarded $2,250 in grants to five Northeast Iowa organizations.
"Operation Round Up" is funded by donations made by members of MiEnergy Cooperative who voluntarily round up their electrical bill payments. About 1,800 members currently participate, with the average donation being $6 a year per member.
The program has awarded $1,000 to the St. Lucas Fire Association to help support the building of a new fire station in St. Lucas. It awarded $500 to the Lawler Lions Club to support building a new shelter at Croell Park; gave $300 to Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway to help purchase an automatic external defibrillator (AED); awarded $250 to the Mobile Mamma program headquartered in Cresco; and gave $200 to Decorah's Quilts of Valor program to purchase fabric for quilts for veterans.
