The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says it wants the public to know the opioid crisis is real and part of the Northeast Iowa landscape.
The office has released a few details about an emergency call last week which involved opioids. Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies Todd Schmitt and Chris Wuebker were called to a location in Ridgeway at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, October 17th. The two deputies acted quickly in responding to an emergency call reporting a person was unconscious and not breathing from an opioid overdose. The deputies started CPR and administered Narcan, saving the person's life.
The Sheriff's Office is thanking the Iowa Narcotics Officers' Association for providing training to officers to help them recognize drug overdoses and to teach them how to administer Narcan to a victim. The Sheriff's Office is also thanking Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health and Marcia Oltrogge for applying for the grant that paid for purchasing the naloxone (Narcan) for deputies to carry in their patrol vehicles.
No further details will be released on this ongoing case until the pending charges are filed.
