The 900 block of West Pearl Street is somewhat "hidden"
(by decorahnews.com's Paul Scott):
Last week, I told you how confused I get when I'm driving near the Lutheran Cemetery off Pershing Street. I wrote at the time how some streets look like alleys and some alleys look like streets. One of those streets was East Pearl Street.
It turns out, that's not the only confusing part about "Pearl Street." What's even more confusing is that there are six separate segments of street in Decorah known as "Pearl Street."
If you start at Montgomery Street and drive up the 800 block of East Pearl Street, you quickly discover the street ends at the cemetery--or does it? If you go around to the other side of the cemetery, you find the 500 and 600 blocks of East Pearl Street.
But don't stop there! Between Day Street and Washington Street are two more blocks of East Pearl Street--the 100 and 200 blocks. Make a couple of turns off Washington Street and before you know it, Railroad Avenue has turned into the 400 & 300 blocks of West Pearl Street.
Did you think West Pearl Street ended at Mechanic Street? You'd be wrong! Jump around another block or two and you discover the 600 block of West Pearl Street off Mill Street.
But don't stop now! Head to Phelps Park and keep heading south and on your left you will reach the 900 block of West Pearl Street.
Yes, I will agreed with anyone who argues some stretches of Pearl Street are not "hidden," but there probably aren't a lot of people who know all six stretches of Pearl Street in Decorah--except maybe pizza deliverers who have to know which of the six stretches to drop off a pepperoni pizza at.
Did you know there's a 600 block of West Pearl?
The 300 and 400 blocks of West Pearl are the most-traveled stretches
