The Oneota Film Festival recently announced the addition of filmmaker Jack Meggers as co-director of the 2020 Oneota Film Festival.
Long-time Oneota Film Festival director Christy Ebert-Vrtis will be in Malta with her family and Luther students next February. Therefore, the Oneota Film Festival board has added Jack Meggers to the board as co-director to help produce OFF 2020.
As a writer/director, Jack Meggers, an Iowa native, spent fifteen years in New York City and Los Angeles working in the film industry. And Meggers is familiar with the festival. His film Portrait,
"A Ballet Film in Four Movements," was shown at the 2018 Festival.
Meggers shadowed Christy Ebert-Vrtis at the 2019 Festival to get a feel for the directorship. Meggers will focus on several aspects of the Festival as a member of the acting board this fall and winter. He will be the person in charge "on the ground" for membership events leading up to the festival and during the festival itself, February 13-16.
The first Membership event for the 2020 season will be Friday at 7pm at the Waukon Main Feature Theater & Pizza Pub, 38 W Main St, Waukon, IA. Appropriately, Jack Meggers' short film "The Burial" will be screened with free admission. A question and answer session with Meggers will follow the screening of the film.
"The Burial" was filmed on locations in Allamakee County. Viewers will recognize characters and places. His fascination with the Iowa side of the Mississippi River valley, specifically the Driftless Area, dates back to when he was a child.
