Work has been completed on replacing a large stretch of the wall along the road in Phelps Park.
Stone mason John Dingley was been hired by the City of Decorah to do the project. Dingley removed the previous stone wall and built a new, concrete wall with the rocks attached.
Decorah Parks and Recreation Director Andy Nimrod says final cost for the south section was about $40,000. Money to pay for the project comes in part from an Iowa Great Places grant totaling $155,000 that the city received. The city also used hotel/motel tax receipts to pay for the project.
The Phelps Park wall project is one of several planned improvements at local parks, including repairs to the Larson Fountain in Phelps Park; work on the Phelps Trail; stone pillars in Dunning Springs Park and work on a path to Pulpit Rock.
