Members of the Iowa Utilities Board will have a long week ahead of them.
The board will begin hearing testimony at 9:00 Monday morning on Alliant Energy's request to be allowed to increase its rates. Alliant Energy filed a rate request with the Utilities Board March 1st to raise base rates 24.45 percent for residential customers, 18.36 percent for general service customers, and 25.29 percent for large general service customers. Under the proposed rate increase, a typical residential electric base rate bill of $82.31 in 2018 would increase by more than $20 to $102.44 in 2020, a more than 24 percent change.
Five days of testimony in the case have been scheduled by the three-member Iowa Utilities Board, starting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday (after a 9:00 a.m. start on Monday) and running until 4:30 p.m. all five days. There's a chance some evenings would have scheduled testimony, as well.
