Heritage Valley to hold seed harvest on Saturday

Posted: Thu, Oct 3, 2019 10:00 AM

Heritage Valley, a 1,200-acre nature area near Decorah, will hold a fall prairie seed harvest on Saturday. The rain date is October 12th.

Volunteers are being sought to hand harvest native seed from Heritage Valley's hillside prairies. Seed collected will be used to diversify and expand the prairie.

Volunteers should bring a water bottle and sun protection and should wear clothes you don't mind getting beat up, work gloves and sturdy shoes.  All other equipment will be provided.

No experience is necessary and families are welcome.  The terrain can be steep and hilly, so all volunteers are encouraged to work at their own pace and comfort level.

For more information, contact INHF Volunteer Coordinator Melanie Louis at mlouis@inhf.org or 515-288-1846, extension 35.
