Decorah man is sentenced on charges stemming from a fight with jailers

21-year-old Donavon Nelson of Decorah has entered a guilty plea to an assault charge.
Appearing before Circuit Court Judge Alan Heavens, Nelson plead guilty to a charge of assault on an officer of the law. He was given a 30 day jail sentence, but all but two days of the sentence were suspended. He had earlier been fined $250 for a guilty plea to a charge of Interference with Official Acts.
Nelson was accused of struggling with jail staff in May and trying to knee a jailer in the groin.
