Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation (NEICAC) Family Service offices will start taking limited applications for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) on Tuesday, October 1st.
Households with someone living there who is 60 years old or older OR who is disabled can file an application starting Tuesday, as can households which have received a written disconnection notice OR are currently disconnected from their energy heating source or electricity AND have an annual gross income of 175 percent of poverty, or less may apply. All other households must wait until November 1st to apply.
For more information, contact your local NEICAC Family Service Office, which for Winneshiek County is at the Smith Building at 305 Montgomery Street. Call (563) 387-4958 to learn of office hours.
The LIHEAP program provides supplemental financial help based on several factors, including household income, household size, dwelling type and type of heating fuel. The program is NOT designed to pay a household's total energy costs.
