Posted: Wed, Sep 25, 2019 2:35 PM

Matt Tapscott, the former Chair of the Winneshiek County Democrats (2015-2018), will challenge incumbent state Senator Michael Breitbach of Iowa Senate District 28.

Tapscott, a former Marine and owner and operator of a childcare service, will hold a campaign fundraiser at the home of Cathy and Bill Pardee at 1552 Manawa Trail Road on Saturday, October 12, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Members of the Iowa State Senate have four-year terms. Senator Breitbach was first elected to Iowa Senate District 28 in 2012, when he defeated current Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors member John Beard (Democrat). In 2016, incumbent Michael Breitbach defeated challengers Jan Heikes (Democrat) and Troy Hageman (Libertarian).

In his campaign announcement, Tapscott referenced "Fighting for Iowa's forgotten hard-working families," as well as "greater investments in rural Iowa," including infrastructure, health care, and high quality childcare.
