Decorah resident Tiffany Ranweiler-Oblander, a former Cresco teacher, has been granted a delay until October 14th to decide whether to file a guilty plea to a charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee.
Ranweiler-Oblander is accused of engaging in sexual contact with an 18-year-old student in the Howard-Winneshiek School District during the school year, away from Crestwood High School. Ranweiler-Oblander was put on administrative leave from her teaching job; was banned from the school grounds; and was forbidden to have contact with the student.
Ranweiler-Oblander had been scheduled to go on trial, but announced earlier she wanted to sign a plea agreement. A court appearance had been scheduled for Monday, but before that took place, the State Attorney in the case noticed an error on the plea agreement. Additionally, Ranweiler-Oblander said she wants time to consider other plea options Judge Alan Heavens approved the delay until 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 14th.
