The Oneota Valley Community Orchestra will be holding auditions Sunday for singers for its January production of the Gian Carlo Menotti family opera, "Amahl and the Night Visitors." This marks OVCO's first opera and will be directed by Kristen Underwood, with musical direction by Matt Cody, and choreography by Laurie Walter.

"Amahl and the Night Visitors" tells the story of the Magi from the perspective of a spirited 11 year old boy. Besides Amahl (boy soprano), his Mother (soprano), and the three Kings (tenor, baritone, and bass), other roles include a royal Page (bass-baritone), and a chorus of Shepherds of all ages.

Singers are asked to prepare approximately 2 minutes of a vocal selection from the classical repertoire. For young singers, a classic Christmas carol or a musical theater selection (written before 1960) are also welcome. An accompanist will be provided.

Auditions will be held by appointment on Sunday, September 15th in the afternoon and evening. To schedule an appointment, for details about the rehearsal schedule (December 8th through January 11th), or for more information, contact director Kristen Underwood at kristenunderwood50@gmail.com.
