The murder trial of 19-year-old Dalton Adam will take place in New Hampton, not Decorah.
District Court Judge Richard Stochl on Monday afternoon announced he was granting defense requests that Adam's trial be moved out of Decorah. Public Defender Andrew Thalacker had argued that pretrial publicity in Winneshiek County had made it impossible for Adam to get a fair trial in Decorah.
Thalacker asked that the trial be moved to the Black Hawk County Courthouse in Waterloo, but Special Prosecutor Scott Brown argued the trial should be moved to Chickasaw County instead, to make it easier for witnesses and family members to attend. Judge Stochl agreed with Brown.
The trial, which is expected to take five days, will now begin October 28th in New Hampton.
